pangkor island is a fabulous holiday destination for a cheap illicit affair. you don’t have to spend a lot( since there is nothing much to buy other than salted fish) and since nobody goes there – no one would ever catch you having an affair. go to pangkor island if you want to see a dying economy so dependent on tourism yet the government and no one is else is doing anything to promote it. other than the island resort, it is one sad place. we were there two weeks ago and we were told the only landing strip ( they call it the airport) is closed. when my brother’s glasses needed some fixing, they told us the one and only optical shop had closed a while ago. makes you wonder why?
after asking a few people about the potentials of the island- i am surprised no one is doing anything. a friend of ours who owns a yacht said – a lot of boats use the straits of malacca to sail down to singapore from langkawi or phuket. ideally, it could have been a stopover point but the water is not deep enough for a marina. i don’t get it – you mean to say, we can’t dig deeper to build a marina? if singapore and hong kong could reclaim land – i see possibilities in anything.
all said and done – we had a nice relaxing time basking in the sun
